NAT (Norse): Night. A Giant, she rules over night with her horse Hrimfaxi. NIOBE: Daughter of king TANTALUS. She had seven sons and seven daughters. She boasted that people should worship her instead of LATONA, because she had more children. APOLLO and DIANA were sent to kill her sons. Latona was heartbroken, but still said her daughters were better. So they killed her daughters as well. She was so sad she turned to stone, but she still cried tears, and so she became a fountain. NORNS, WYRD or WEIRD SISTERS (Norse): Control fate. URTH or WYRD controlled the past. VERTHANDI controlled the present, SKULD controlled the future. PANDORA: Wife of: EPIMETHEUS: Name means "all gifts". Was created by ZEUS to punish PROMETHEUS for his gift of fire to humanity. All the deities gave her some gift, and she was sent to Prometheus with a box. He suspected a trick, and sent her away, but EPIMETHEUS accepted her because of her beauty. They opened the box, and all the evils of humanity flew out. Quickly, they tried to close the box, but only one thing was left in the box: hope. PLEIADES: The Seven daughters of ATLAS. They were chased by ORION so much that they asked ZEUS for help. He turned them into doves, and then stars. POMONA (Roman): Goddess of fruit trees, especially apple trees. PSYCHE: Wife of CUPID, Mother of Pleasure. Was such a beautiful princess that people admired her instead of VENUS. Venus sent Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with an unworthy person. Doing this, Cupid accidentally wounded himself with his arrows. He healed her of the effect and left. From then on, no-one paid much attention to Psyche, and she couldn't find a husband. An oracle told her family to send her to a mountain where her husband would be a monster. When there, ZEPHYRUS took her away to a palace. A voice told her that everything in the palace was hers, and the voice was her husband: she could never see his face. Her family convinced her that she had to see her husband, so she took a lamp into the bedchamber. When she saw him, Cupid flew away. Eventually, Venus gave her some tasks. Cupid made the ants help her seperate the seeds in the storehouse of Venus' temple. She took the golden fleece of sheep to Venus. She went to Hades to get ointment from PROSERPINA, and finally Cupid asked JUPITER for help. MERCURY took Psyche to mount Olympus, and she became immortal by eating Ambrosia. Psyche and Cupid had a daughter called Pleasure. RHEA (Greek), also CYBELE - OPS (Roman) Daughter of URANUS and GAEA, wife of CRONUS. Mother of JUPITER, JUNO, CERES, VESTA, NEPTUNE. When Cronus tried to swallow Zeus, she gave him a stone instead, and saved his life. SIRENS: Half bird, half women, these creatures seduced sea farers with their singing. People fell asleep, and crashed into the rocks. SYRINX: A follower of DIANA. She was pursued by PAN so much that when she was almost caught, she called to the God of a nearby stream, and was changed into reeds. Pan sighed, and noticed how the reeds made a musical sound. He then made the reeds into a pipe. THISBE and PYRAMUS: Couple that fell in love, despite their parents. Eventually, they decided to run away together. Thisbe got to the meeting place first, but she was scared away by a lioness, and dropped her veil. Pyramus got there later, and saw her veil with blood from the Lioness' mouth on it. He killed himself, and when she came back, she killed herself with the same sword. Their blood forever makes the mulberry fruit the deep purple colour. VALKYRIES (Norse): Goddesses of Death. Carried hero's to Valhalla on winged horses. VESTA (Greek): Goddess of the Hearth Daughter of RHEA and CRONUS. Symbols: Sacred Fire. The guardian of the family, and most towns had a hearthfire tended by Vestal Virgins. When moving homes, a family would sometimes take a piece of the last fire to start the fire in their new homes.
