FATES: Seen as spinning the web of life, and decided the fate of humans and Gods. CLOTHO spun the web, LACHESIS decided on the fate, and ATROPOS cut the threads. FLORA (Roman): Goddess of flowers and spring. Celebrated May 1st as Floralia. Perhaps the bride of ZEPHYRUS. FORTUNA (Roman): Goddess of Fortune. Sometimes seen as holding a ball, sometimes with a rudder, sometimes with a cornucopia. FREYA (Norse): Goddess of love, flowers, and music. Had a wagon pulled by two cats. Owned the necklace Brisingamen that was stolen by LOKI. Ruled over the fairies in Alfheim. Friday is named after her. FRIGG (Norse): Queen of the Gods. Wife of ODIN, Mother of THOR and BALDER. She was said to know everything. GAEA (Greek and Roman?): Mother Earth Emerged from Chaos, wife of URANUS. Mother of CRONUS, MNEMOSYNE, and the Titans. Upset by her husbands treatment of their children, she gave her son Cronus a sickle with which to kill Uranus. Frequently seen as 'Mother Earth'. HALCYONE and CEYX: Married. Halcyone was the daughter of king AEOLUS. They ruled Trachis in peace, until he had to leave to consult an oracle. He died in a storm, but as he drowned, he asked NEPTUNE to take his body back home so his wife would know he was dead. Halcyone was worried, and asked HERA to help her husband return. Hera knew she could do nothing, and so sent IRIS to get a dream from MORPHEUS to tell Halcyone that her husband was dead. In Halcyone's dream, however, her husband looked very dead. She went to the sea, and saw her husband's body floating up to her. She jumped into the sea to kill herself, but ZEUS changed her and her husband into Kingfishers. King Aeolus felt so bad, that he holds a season of peace for the week before, and week after, the winter solstice. This is so his grandchildren can be born without a storm nearby. HEBE (Roman): Daughter of ZEUS and HERA. Cupbearer to the Gods; married to HERCULES. HECATE: Queen of the Witches: A Titan who kept her power. Dogs howled at her approach. She sent night demons to the land of the living. She helped DEMETER search for her daughter PERSEPHONE. She was Goddess of the night as terrifying. HEL (Norse): Death Goddess. Presided over Death and the underworld. Her home was Sleet-Den. Her attendants were Hunger, Care, and Stumbling-Stone. HERA (Greek) - JUNO (Roman): Goddess of Marriage Daughter of CRONUS and RHEA. Wife of ZEUS. Mother of MARS, VULCAN, HEBE. Symbols: Peacock. Typically seen as a strong-willed woman who is very beautiful in middle age. She is frequently seen as being jealous of her husband's many affairs. Her attendant was IRIS. HESPERIDES: Daughters of HESPER? The three women who guard the Tree of Golden Apples. IO: ZEUS fell in love with her, but HERA noticed. So Zeus surrounded them with a cloud, and changed Io into a cow. When Hera saw the cow, she asked for it, and then had it guarded by the ARGUS. She was saved by MERCURY. She was plagued by Hera, but eventually when Zeus promised to pay her no more attention, Io was changed back into her human form. IRIS: Goddess of the Rainbow. Also the flower that the Greeks called the Hyacinth. There are letters on it's petals that say "woe". ITHUNN (Norse): Goddess of early spring. Wife of BRAGI. She was the guardian of the golden apples which the Gods ate to become young again. KORE, PERSEPHONE - PROSPERPINA: Goddess of Spring. Wife of HADES. Abducted by Hades, she is eventually told she can go home. In relief, she eats 6 pomegranate seeds, and so has to spend 6 months of the year with her husband. LETO (Greek) - LATONA (Roman): Had an affair with ZEUS. Mother of APOLLO and DIANA. HERA was forever angry with Latona. Once, Latona was wandering with her children, and being thirsty, she tried to drink from a pond. The people there wouldn't let her, so she turned them into frogs. LUPERCA and LUPERCUS (Roman): Protectors of flocks. Protected flocks from wolves. Celebrated on Feb. 15th. MARPESSA: Wife of Idas. APOLLO wanted to win her, but she chose Idas. Her family wanted her to marry Apollo, but NEPTUNE gave Idas a chariot which helped them escape. Apollo followed them, but ZEUS said that she should decide who she married. She chose Idas because they could grow old together. MNEMOSYNE: Goddess of Memory Daughter of URANUS and GAEA. A Titan, she had an affair with ZEUS, and produced the MUSES. MORRIGU, The (Celtic): Death Goddess. Lover of The DAGDA. Loved anything horrible. Liked starting wars, and flying over the battlefield as a crow. Eventually, friend of CUCHULAIN. MUSES: Goddesses of inspiration. Daughters of ZEUS and MNEMOSYNE.
